The best music store I've ever been to. You can breathe music inside. I told them I was from Italy, they were so kind, they made me try a Gibson mandolin from 1918! There's a lot of beautiful stuff, new and second hand. Good prices, I was looking for spare knobs and they gave them to me for free. I also bought a cable, t-shirt and picks.

Vic here: My first-time visit to SAM from where I live on Galveston Island was simply wonderful, and it was the staff that made it so. The shop is filled with every sort of quality instrument and amp equipment that spans the full range of pricing, and its nice to just peruse the shop. But, what made my trip there so great was my interaction with Tim -- their bass guy. I'm brand new to the bass (actually, any string instrument), and though I had already just purchased my new Fender J-bass days before in Houston, Tim expressed genuine and complete encouragement at my new journey. He took time with me to talk about playing the bass and my story -- an interpersonal characteristic quality lost in nearly every area of retail today. I cannot say enough about how great his personal engagement with me made me feel. This is certain: When it's time to upgrade my bass (which will be soon, I hope), I will be getting it from Tim at SAM. The only question is, which one of the many stunning vintage Fender J-basses that I wanted to take home that day will it be? (I did get one of their cool t-shirts.) Thanks so much, Tim. Can't wait to come back!

Such a rad shop that has pretty much anything and everything you're looking for (including Bass VI strings!).
It's a store that feels like home, beyond cozy and such great staff too.
I honestly couldn't recommend South Austin Music enough!

These guys are champs!
I brought in my wife's mother's guitar, 1960ish acoustic and had them put some new tuning pegs and new strings on it.
Brought tears to my wife. What a blessing, really really good customer And a quick response.
I highly recommend them.

Cannot recommend highly enough! Had an absolutely phenomenal experience buying an acoustic guitar here. The prices were great and the selection was extensive but not overwhelming. Staff were super helpful (but also chill af) and let me try guitars for as long as I wanted in a private practice room and then hooked me up with a sweet deal on a used case. 6/5 stars, thanks y’all!!

excellent! from start to finish - tyler, phoenix, seth, and billy (the owner) were so warm and welcoming. went home with a gorgeous strat for a great price!! definitely the place if you want a wide range with fantastic service 🎸
